(SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Clippers are two games away from wrapping up another fantastic regular season and will try to set a franchise record for wins when they conclude a five-game homestand Tuesday versus the Denver Nuggets. The Clippers are one victory away from setting a franchise record, which was tied with a 56th triumph in Saturdays 117-101 decision over the Sacramento Kings. The 2012-13 team finished the season 56-26, but then lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Memphis Grizzlies. Los Angeles was the fourth seed last season and is trying to capture the No. 2 spot in the Western Conference. L.A. is locked in at No. 3 and needs to win its last two games and have Oklahoma City lose at home to Detroit on Wednesday. The Pacific-champion Clippers and Thunder split four meetings this season. The Clippers, who will visit the Portland Trail Blazers Wednesday, improved to 2-2 on the homestand with a convincing victory over the Kings at Staples Center. Blake Griffin scored 27 points and handed out nine assists, while DeAndre Jordan had 21 points, nine rebounds and seven blocks. Chris Paul posted a near triple-double with 17 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds for the Clippers, winners in 19 of the last 23 games and owners of a 33-7 home record. Only Indiana (35-6) has a better record at home. "Were still playing for something," Paul said on the teams website. "We can keep building confidence on defense. Were at our best when were running and getting stops." The Clippers are the best scoring team in the NBA at 107.9 ppg. They have reached 100 or more points in each of the last eight games and are 35-12 since January 1. Denver is playing out the string and will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2002-03. It has been playing better down the stretch with three straight wins and four in the past six games. Injuries and lack of chemistry under head coach Brian Shaw have hampered the Nuggets and theyll try to end the season on a high note. The Nuggets are coming off Saturdays 101-94 win versus the Utah Jazz, as Kenneth Faried posted 24 points with a career-high 21 rebounds. Faried is posting an average of 19.9 points and 11.0 rebounds since March 1. Randy Foye netted a team-high 26 points and Evan Fournier came off the bench and supplied 23 for Denver, which scored 67 points in the second half after failing to record at least 20 points in each of the first two periods. "The effort of the guys competing and playing hard I thought everyone contributed in their own special way," Shaw said. "The guys really have something going and Im proud of them the way they are finishing up the season." Shaws words were a far cry from how he felt during the season when he questioned the teams pride and effort. The Nuggets are 14-26 on the road and ended a six-game slide as the visitor with a win at Golden State on April 10. In other team news, guard Randy Foye has made 186 3-pointers this season -- good enough for second in team lore behind Dale Ellis 192 baskets from downtown (1996-97). Denver guard Ty Lawson (knee) is expected to miss Tuesdays game against the Clippers and hasnt played since April 4 at Memphis (4 games). It may be unlikely that he keeps that lofty pace but, particularly with the Giants facing a soft schedule coming up (Jacksonville, Tennessee, Washington), Beckham should be a high-end option at wide receiver. Fisher: Any receiver that can make a catch like that (reportedly) on a regular basis in practice, dating back to college, is worth a lot of hype. He’s not a top-end WR yet, prior to his huge Week 12 Beckham was performing more like a high-end WR2, but he will be. With his breakout performance, Beckham joins the cast of several rookie receivers who deserve to be keepers in such leagues. Hetherington: Beckham is getting a lot of attention, but deservedly so, his performance on Sunday night was nothing short of spectacular. Im not sure top-end is the right category, but I see Beckham being every-week safe WR2 for the remainder of the season. Much like fellow rookie Kelvin Benjamin, Beckham is the lone threat at wide receiver on his team. Therefore, targets are a guarantee and - as long as its in his wingspan - Beckham will catch any ball thrown his way. CJ Anderson finally looks like the back we expected from the Broncos offence. Can he be trusted more than Montee Ball or Ronnie Hillman for sustained success? Cullen: Third in line for the Broncos running game, after Montee Ball and Ronnie Hillman, Anderson has been really productive over the past three weeks, gaining 473 yards from scrimmage with a couple touchdowns on 65 touches in the past three weeks. He seems to be a good fit for the Broncos because hes a viable threat as a receiver and while hes likely to face challenges for playing time from Juwan Thompson or if the others get healthy,, Anderson is a good choice right now, a productive starting running back on a premier offence.dddddddddddd Fisher: I’m of the opinion that big fantasy numbers out of the Broncos’ backfield should be expected, not just hoped for. Anderson’s finally doing the position justice, which is more an indictment of Ball and Hillman than it is a compliment to Anderson. Still, Anderson is doing what any running back in Denver should do – putting up points in bunches – and he should continue that relatively easy feat all season. Hetherington: Im beginning to think the Broncos backfield cursed. Every time a back seems to emerge, he goes down with injury. Im going to take a guess and say the third times the charm for the Broncos at running back and Andersons the guy that can finally stay healthy. As long as he does, Anderson is a RB1 in an offence that scores points in bunches. Limiting Andersons long-term outlook, however, is the eventual returns of Ball and Hillman. Though those may not come until after the fantasy season. The Redskins are starting Colt McCoy. Should fantasy players be doing the same? Cullen: Are we talking two or three-quarterback leagues here? McCoy has been great in his two appearances this year (36-for-42, 427 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT), but I would have to be in a completely desperate situation to put my fantasy hopes on McCoy. This seasons results notwithstanding, I would need to see a bunch more before starting McCoy this late in the season. Just because the Redskins are doing it doesnt mean every fantasy owner should behave so recklessly. Fisher: McCoy has one good game on film and the fantasy scoreboard, and a whole lot of bad ones from his time in Cleveland. Owners of RG3, if there are any left patient enough to endure through his struggles, can find much better replacements on the waiver wire than McCoy. Hetherington: McCoy would be an extreme reach of a start this week. Colt did a good job of moving the offence in his two outings with the Redskins earlier this year, but expecting more than one touchdown from him is a stretch. I dont even see McCoy on the QB2 radar this week, though he may have the opportunity to rack up fantasy points in garbage time if the Colts run up the score early. With the way the Redskins have played as a whole, I cant see McCoy playing the savior for the struggling team.
